Township Fire Chief has ordered a burning ban
to protect our Firemen 
FIRE CHIEF MESSAGE TO Hanover Township Supervisors,

 I would like to clarify my request to you in regards to the burning ban.
 The State of Pennsylvania is on an ?Essential Only? Work force. As Fire Chief, I have made the best decision to help eliminate  calls to the department exposing our firefighters to calls that could possibly expose them to Covid-19 unnecessarily.

 Our Department is using every safety factor we can to keep our firefighters and township safe, in return we ask the township to respect my decisions. .Our department is down to 5 volunteer Fire Fighters available to respond to calls due to the possible exposure of Covid-19 and their concerns of exposing their immediate family. We at this time cannot rely on neighboring fire departments for assistance for they have the same concerns.

?Washington County received word from the Pennsylvania Department of Health through the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency that there is presumptive positive COVID-19 in Washington County.  They did not release any specific information about the patient?s location or circumstances.

 

Washington County is closely monitoring all information from the PA Department of Health, CDC, and local sources regarding the CoVID-19 pandemic.  We have met with stakeholders from local healthcare, first responder agencies, and municipalities and are frequently updating them with the latest information from state and federal partners. 

 

Anyone who is experiencing flulike signs or symptoms should contact their primary care physician (PCP).  If you do not have a primary care physician (PCP), please call the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PADOH) at 877-PA HEALTH (1-877-724-3258).  Please do not go to the hospital without contacting your PCP or PADOH first, unless you are in severe respiratory distress.  If that is the case, please contact your hospital first before going there.

 

We encourage all residents and businesses to follow the guidance being encouraged by the Department of Health and CDC to frequently wash your hands, limit social contact, and postpone large events.  County government is taking measures to reduce person-to-person contact while maintaining the necessary functions of the county. 

 

The Court has published guidance in response to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.  This guidance is published at www.washingtoncourts.us.  Court business is being limited to essential proceedings and essential filings. Entrance to court facilities will be limited to legal counsel, necessary participants, and individuals with a legitimate business need.  At this time, we are asking that you do not come to the court or office to make a payment, unless absolutely necessary.  Individuals are encouraged to use on-line payment options at this time.

 

If you have cases pending in the Court of Common Pleas or Magisterial District Courts, please take note of these procedures that are in effect until March 20, 2020.  Please note that the effective dates of the guidance may be modified depending upon the evolving circumstances regarding the spread of the virus.

 

Cases will proceed as currently scheduled unless otherwise notified by the Court.  If you have questions about your case, please direct them first to your attorney.  If you do not have an attorney, please contact the court or office that you are to appear before.  All other inquiries should be made to the Court Information Desk at (724) 228-6999. ?

In a democracy knowledge is truly power. Transparency of process in government keeps citizens abreast of what government is doing in real time. Transparent processes in government assure that the acts of elected officials reflect the will of the citizenry; for it is when elected officials and citizens work toward the same purposes that government truly works with the most efficiency and the least friction. A government that affords sufficient time to reflect upon, and to understand, its proposed actions   shows respect for, and confidence in, its citizens. Transparent governmental processes make the citizenry partners in knowledge with the government. Such shared knowledge not only assures citizens that their government has nothing to hide, but also evidences a healthy willingness by the government to have citizen input from the very inception of proposed actions. Such a government reflects Alexander Hamilton’s assertion that “The confidence of the people is easily gained by a good administration.” 

The courts have recognized that the public’s right to know what the government is doing is protected by the First Amendment.

Indeed, a democracy cannot function without government transparency and the ability of the people to hold elected officials and other government actors accountable.
